Aura CuriAtlas develops performances with innovative collaborators using dance, theatre, acrobatics, videography, sound, and text. We keep the qualities of curiosity (Curi), lightness (Aura), and strength (Atlas) at the center of our creative process. Our wholeheartedness, risk-taking, and use of physical storytelling make our stories meaningful, engaging, and thought-provoking for audiences. Aura CuriAtlas keeps moving in new directions and sharing our method to encourage other creators to take pride in their own artistic imagination.
Aura CuriAtlas was founded in 2013 to explore a collaborative model for creating compelling performances. Our founding members -- Joan Gavaler, Dan Plehal, Mickey Lonsdale, Jane Rabinovitz -- are artists from the East Coast and Midwest who contributed dance, theatre, and acrobatic backgrounds to develop our DREAM LOGIC stories. We collaborated with composer Sophia Serghi to create two more shows – A Life With No Limits (inspired by Stephen Hawking) and The Fool and The World (inspired by the Tarot deck). Aura CuriAtlas continues expanding its theatrical and digital storytelling, including new play development of The Zombie Life: A Seminar for Humans Seeking Conversion with Firehouse Theatre and digital work such as S. L. Feemster’s ConFront(ed). We have toured in the U. S. and internationally as well as presenting our work in digital spaces. As of 2022, our collaborators have included 30 performers in a range of shows as well as composers, video artists, poets, playwrights, graphic designers, social media creators, stage managers, and costume designers.
